👋 Hi Baz

January 29, 2024—Baz Technologies Inc. today announced the launch and general availability of its AI coding platform and the close of an $8M Seed Round. Baz features a purpose-built coding agent for pull requests called Reviewer. Baz Reviewer analyzes code and performs intelligent inline reviews of changed code edits, bringing code base context for developers to reduce downstream impact across multiple repos.

Baz was founded by Guy Eisenkot and Nimrod Kor, who bring over 20 years of experience in engineering, with Guy previously co-founding Bridgecrew, which was acquired by Palo Alto Networks for $200M in 2021. The company announced that it has raised $8M in Seed funding, co-led by Battery Ventures and Boldstart Ventures, with participation from Vermillion Ventures, Secret Chord Ventures and Fusion VC.

Automated code review that reduces the noise

“Baz was created to birth a turning point for developers — a moment when a tedious task becomes effortless,” said Guy Eisenkot, Co-Founder & CEO of Baz. “We are seeing a fundamental gap in pull requests in the age of copilots, where developers are ill-equipped with evaluating AI generated code. Our goal is to put to work advanced code analysis with AI & application behavior data to start a new way to review code.”

Baz tackles the limitations of legacy platforms and Git-based versioning with unique capabilities that reduce downstream issues and speed up merge time - up to 40% faster. This includes:

  • Programmatic Software Verification The platform replaces manual code inspection with an opinionated automated review flow, analyzing usage patterns and data flows to detect changes in endpoints, HTTP methods, parameters, responses, enums, validation rules, authorization requirements, and behavior.
  • Beyond Diff-Centric Reviews Baz extends reviews well beyond diffing commits to introduce actionable, inline annotations that highlight precisely where problems may arise. It parses actual code grammar instead of the text diff to provide high-fidelity context with accurate search, completions, and suggestions.
  • Harnessing Application Behavior Data A key differentiator of Baz is its ability to read and correlate code changes with logs and traces originating from CI/CD and monitoring tools, giving developers a unique map to discover possible downstream issues.

“By analyzing code and connecting it with application-related data streams, we can give developers a level of context that simply isn’t available through git-based code review,” said Nimrod Kor, Co-Founder & CTO at Baz. “The end result is a code review that keeps developers focused on potential issues and reduces downstream incidents.”

Baz now available

Baz is now generally available with a 14-day trial that provides full access to the platform’s AI Reviewer capabilities. After the trial, teams can subscribe for the Teams Plan for unlimited access to AI Reviewer, or upgrade to the Enterprise Plan, featuring self-hosting options and AI model customization.

“We envision a future where every developer can rely on Baz to eliminate guesswork from code reviews,” said Shachar Azriel, VP Product at Baz. “Our roadmap includes exciting fields of research in the field of AI code review, underscoring our commitment to reshaping the future of code reviews.”

About Baz

Baz is an AI-powered coding platform leveraging specialized models and embeddings to address the limitations of traditional coding tools. Developers no longer have to manually piece together the impact of pull requests; Baz models, analyzes and reviews code changes, detecting breaking changes, enforcing consistency, and highlighting misaligned coding patterns. Baz makes every review faster, more accurate, and aligned with the real-world impact of the code changes being made.

We are shaping the future of code review.
